Overview

Chorakukan
Chorakukan

Chorakukan is on the south edge of Maruyama Park - and is worth whatever price they charge for coffee or cake.

Designed by J.M. Gardner, it was completed in 1909.

The building was originally the summer home for a tobacco magnate named Murai, and a dream commission for Gardner.

Today it serves as a hotel, restaurant, cafe, and is often used as a venue for wedding parties.

The location could not be better:

Kodaiji Temple and the Path of Nene are just south, Chionin Temple is a walk across Maruyama Park, and Gion is directly west.

Note: this is not a casual place. The management may not be pleased if you roll up, park your rental bike in the courtyard, and then head in in your sweaty bike gear.

Menu

Dinner, lunch, and cakes.
