Hosomi Museum 細見美術館

Overview

The Hosomi Museum houses the collection of the Hosomi Ryo, a wealthy merchant from Osaka.

The museum was founded in March 1998 and is close to both the National Museum of Modern Art and the Kyoto Municipal Museum of Art.

Hosomi Museum features more than 1000 works of Japanese art.

Prominent in the collection are works of Heian and Kamakura Buddhist and Shinto art, Muromachi ink painting, Negoro lacquer ware and tea ceremony kettles, Momoyama ceramics and cloisonne.

In addition, the collection houses works by Edo painters Rimpa and Ito Jakuchu.

The building itself is also worth a visit, with a carved out and open pavilion area below the first floor.

It is located a block away from the Torii gates and the main drag of Okazaki.

There is a cafe on the basement level.
