Jazz Spot Yamatoya

 

Yamatoya Jazz Cafe is a mini-institution located on a small side street off Marutumachi Dori not far from the Kyoto Handicrafts Center or Budokan (Martial Arts Center), which is behind Heian Shrine.

This is a cozy "jazz kissa" (cafe).

Yamatoya opened its doors in March 1970 and has a loyal following.

The master spins classic jazz records on very high end audio equipment.

Dark and at times smoky, time seems to stop within the snug confines of Jazz Spot Yamatoya. Books line the walls.

A classic modern Kyoto vibe.
