Second House

NOTE: The building remains, and the interior is more or less unchanged, but Second House Shichijo is no more. It is now a fairly mundane lunch place catering to the tour bus crowd.

Second House is in a wonderful old bank building close to both Higashi and Nishi Honganji Temple on Shichijo Dori, and a short walk from Kyoto Station.

The building dates from the Taisho Period, in the 1920s.

It has been renovated and is spacious and comfortable.

This is not a machiya, but whenever in the area we make a point to stop in.

The Second House "chain" consists of cafes and restaurants in and around Kyoto.

They are famous for their cakes and pasta.
